#IWD2025: SPOTLIGHT 1

Haneen Gullberg- Christian Academy

What's your name and what do you do? My name is Haneen Gullberg! I am the Lower Primary teacher of a Christian Academy. That makes me a mathematician, scientist, linguist, and philosopher/theologian along with my students! :)

This years theme is all about #acceleratingaction. What do you understand by this and how can we activate this in your respective space? This year’s theme, #AcceleratingAction, calls us to move beyond passive acknowledgment and take intentional, meaningful steps toward honoring, equipping, and empowering women in every sphere of life. As a Classical Christian educator, I understand this theme not as a call to hastened change for its own sake, but as a challenge to be deliberate and faithful in cultivating a culture where women flourish in their God-given callings.

What Does #AcceleratingAction Mean?
In a classical Christian context, true progress is not about rushing forward without direction but about rooting ourselves deeply in wisdom, virtue, and truth—found ultimately in Scripture and exemplified in the lives of godly women throughout history. It is about recognizing that meaningful action does not come through fleeting trends but through the steady cultivation of knowledge, character, and a biblical understanding of dignity and purpose.

#AcceleratingAction in my classroom means educating young women to think deeply, communicate clearly, and lead wisely. It means resisting passivity and embracing the call to discern truth in a confused culture.

Many women use fashion as a tool for building confidence. Can you share a time when a particular outfit  choice made you feel especially empowered? While outward beauty should never replace inward character, it can serve as a reflection of dignity and purpose. I recall a moment when I had to speak publicly on a topic I was passionate about. I intentionally chose a structured, elegant outfit—something that not only looked professional but also reflected the confidence and authority I wanted to embody. That day, my clothing wasn’t just fabric; it was a tool that helped me step into my role with poise.

In a Classical Christian framework, we recognize that our bodies are good and purposeful, not objects for display but temples for honoring God (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Teaching young girls to approach fashion with modesty, dignity, and intentionality empowers them to see clothing not as a means of seeking approval, but as a way of expressing confidence in who God has made them to be.

Looking ahead, what kind of world do you envision for future generations of women, and what role do you believe you can play in creating that reality? Looking ahead, I envision a world where women are both strong and virtuous, where they cultivate wisdom over vanity, courage over conformity, and character over fleeting success. This is the kind of empowerment that lasts beyond trends—the kind that shapes families, communities, and cultures.

As an educator, I see my role as one who helps young women rediscover their true calling—not as competitors in a race for power, but as image-bearers of God, created to bring life, wisdom, and strength to the world. My work is to train their minds with truth, form their hearts in virtue, and guide them toward lives of meaningful service.
True progress for women isn’t just about accelerating movement—it’s about directing it toward what is eternally good and beautiful. By anchoring our efforts in wisdom and truth, we do more than keep up with the world—we build a world worth running toward.
